Senior Hospitality Institute - Our goals are bigger than just a better classification system:

Do I need a nursing home?
One of the first questions people have when they start searching for the right place to retire, or searching for a good place for their parents, is "What do all these names mean?"

It is hard to know what to look for in a search engine -- if you look for "retirement" you might not find the nursing home you really need. The phrase "Nursing Home" doesn't bring up all the "Assisted Living" communities your parents might want to look at. And so on.

The short history of the "retirement industry" has led to a confusing mix of names and descriptions, as many people have tried to solve the problem of what to call the communities they have built, and try to find the people who need to reside there. Many of the directors of the more than one hundred thousand (100,000) retirement communities in the United States find themselves trying to market a good product which has a poor label.

S.H. Institute is attempting to save people a lot of time and effort in their search by providing a website using the first objective classification system based upon measurable criteria. This will help you narrow down your search quickly and easily by using a map and clicking on the types and amenities and price ranges that meet your needs.

But, it is important to understand that we are trying to accomplish a lot more than just classifying communities. We're trying to bring every part of the industry together. There are many companies that cater to seniors, and every one of them is searching for better and more efficient ways to meet the needs of seniors of every age and type.

To grasp the core idea of Senior Hospitality, think of the word "Hospital". The hotel hospitality industry developed as a way to "take care of the traveler", reminiscent of the way a hospital takes care of patients.

(Keez - let me know the real wording you want on this page)
